Number Five: Janet Jackson. it could be genetics, or it could be accidental, but either way, Janet Jackson has some brilliant moves and choreography to her name. Routines such as 1986’s “Nasty” and 1989’s “Rhythm Nation” paved the way for future pop stars’ dance numbers and music videos.
Number Four: Shakira. Shakira’s signature move would of course be any example of her belly dancing abilities. Her hips will roll anywhere, off of anything. She mixes latin, Indian, Middle Eastern, and African dances to create her own daringly eclectic style. Her body roll is probably her most recognized move, which she perfected by practicing to the point where she could flip a coin with her belly muscles.
Number Three: Madonna. Madonna has brought to light dozens of previously unknown dance genres, but most notably voguing. Created in the early 1990’s, vogue is a style of house dance in which you strike a pose while at the same time performing house dance moves. Hence the lyric “Strike a pose,” repeatedly sung in the song “Vogue.” So famous did she make this move that there are now three forms of it: old, new and vogue fem.
Number Two: Ciara. Ciara is noticeably inspired by Janet Jackson, but she takes classic hip-hop dance moves and puts her mark on them. She told AOL Music, “Ever since I could walk I have been moving to the music.” She can krump, she can two-step, she’s got her Goodies move, but her signature move is the Matrix. Kids, don’t try this at home.
Number One: Beyonce. Beyonce’s got the booty pop, the booty slap, the booty bend, the booty strut, the booty roll, all manner of the shuffle, the full body wave, the full body pulse, the full body lather, numerous forms of the stanky leg, not to mention ways to flip your hair you’ve never even thought of. Larger-than-life queen Bey is dedicated to her dance routines, performing them night after night while on tour, most likely getting the workout of her life at the same time. And she’s been at it for over fifteen years, from the Destiny’s Child bust thrust all the way through to her most recent sexy sways.
