Number Fifteen: Her Big Break Was on Canadian IdolYou may think Jepsen got her big break with “Call Me Maybe,” but she was on Canadian Idol way before that. She placed third in the series’ fifth season, which took place in 2007.

Number Fourteen: She Made 2012’s Best-Selling Single. Well, duh. “Call Me Maybe” hit number one on the charts in an impressive 18 different countries. This earned it the title of the world’s best-selling single in 2012.

Number Thirteen: She Grew Up in Musical Theater. Jepsen went to school at Heritage Park Secondary School, which is located in Mission, British Columbia. While she was there, she became interested in musical theater and appeared in productions of The Wiz, Annie, and Grease. She ended up studying musical theater in college as well.

Number Twelve: She Was a Bartender. While in college, Jepsen worked all sorts of odd jobs, including as both a barista and a bartender.

Number Eleven: She Postponed the Release of Her Second Album Because of “Call Me Maybe.” Jepsen was not expecting “Call Me Maybe” to be as popular as it ended up being, so she had plans to release her second album shortly after “Call Me Maybe” hit it big. However, the single remained so popular that she actually had to postpone her second album’s release so it didn’t interfere with the single’s success.

Number Ten: She Made Her Television Debut in 2012. After the insane success of “Call Me Maybe,” Jepsen made a cameo on The CW’s 90210. She appeared on the fifth season premiere.

Number Nine: She Was the First Canadian Recipient of the Rising Star Award. Jepsen received the Rising Star Award in 2012 at the Billboard Music Awards, and in fact, she was the very first Canadian to receive it.
