You might think you know yourself, but how much do you really know about the human body? Well, you’re about to find out! Here, we present our list of 15 things you didn’t know about your own body. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!
Number Fifteen: You Lose 40 Pounds Over the Course of Your Life Without Even Trying. You might be aware of the fact that microscopic bits of your skin flake off every single day, but do you know just how much skin you shed? Over the course of your lifetime, you will lose approximately 40 pounds of skin.
Number Fourteen: Your Eyes Work Really, Really Hard. In fact, the muscles that control your eyes contract approximately 100,000 times every day. Imagine doing 100,000 reps of anything in a single day! Yeah, we thought so.
Number Thirteen: Your Mouth Makes a Lot of Saliva. In your lifetime, you will produce enough saliva to fill not one, but two whole swimming pools! Your body produces saliva so you can taste and swallow food, among many other reasons.
Number Twelve: You Have a Unique Smell. Every single human on the planet has their own unique smell, just like we all have different fingerprints. However, there is one exception: twins. Twins share a scent.
Number Eleven: You Make a Pint of Sweat Every Day. Hey, want to grab a pint after work? Of your own sweat? Well, you have about 500,000 sweat glands all over your body, and over the course of a day, you will produce about one pint of sweat.
Number Ten: You Can’t Tickle Yourself. Unless you lack touch sensors in your fingertips and can somehow surprise yourself with your own hand, it’s next to impossible to successfully tickle yourself.
Number Nine: You Can’t Taste Anything With a Dry Tongue. You might credit your taste buds for being able to taste, but they’re completely useless without any moisture. In fact, you need saliva to be able to taste food. Don’t believe us? Just try tasting something after drying your tongue off completely!
