We already brought you part one of our list of the top 15 terrifying facts you won’t believe, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more terrifying but true tidbits about everyday life that will definitely (probably) give you nightmares. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Eight: Your Body Eats You After You Die. You might think of your stomach as simply the place where your food goes, but it’s actually much more sinister. In reality, within three days of dying, the super-dangerous enzymes in your stomach begin to digest your body. Someone’s gotta eat!
Number Seven: Handwriting Kills. Some doctors are neater than others, but it might behoove you to look for another doctor if the one you have no has the handwriting of a toddler. The illegible and sloppy handwriting of doctors kills more than 700 people every single year. Make sure your pharmacist can read that prescription the next time you get one!
Number Six: You Can Hear the Undead. When you die, your sense of smell lasts the longest. You might not be able to see, taste, smell, or touch, but your body can still listen. Creepy.
Number Five: Drunk Drivers Are More Deadly Than You Realize. Every single hour of every single day, someone is killed at the hands of a drunk driver. Whether in the same car as the driver or in another car the driver hits, the combination of alcohol and automobiles is incredibly dangerous. Drinking and driving is never a good idea.
Number Four: Everest Is Not as Pristine as Most People Think. You might be aware that many people die in their attempts to summit Mount Everest, but have you ever wondered what happens to the bodies? Well, Mount Everest is more than a travel destination – it’s a gravesite, too. More than 200 dead bodies are used as landmarks on the mountain.
Number Three: You Could Be Crucified in Sudan. In fact, crucifixion is still considered a legal form of punishment there!
Number Two: Cockroaches Don’t Need Their Heads. If you’re trying to kill a cockroach, don’t try chopping off its head. Cockroaches can survive for up to nine days without a head.
Number One: There Are Some Serial Killers on the Loose. Up to 50 serial killers may be active and on the loose in the United States at any one given time. These serial killers may not kill on a super regular basis, but just knowing that they’re out there is creepy enough.
