Number Ten: Keep Your Face Clean. Cleansing is one of the most important steps of your skin care routine. For most types, washing your face twice daily helps remove dirt, oil and dead skin cells from the surface. Purchase a mild face cleanser to use with warm water and never go to bed with makeup on.
Number Nine: Wash Your Locks. Dry shampoo products appear to be flooding the shelves of beauty shops and drugstores lately. The trend of not washing your hair might appeal to some, but if you struggle with acne, don’t give into this fad. Greasy hair creates a breeding ground for zits along your hairline and face. Go easy on products like hair gels, fragrances and deodorants as they can also clog pores and result in those grog blossoms we all know and hate.
Number Eight. Hands Off! As tempting as it might be to pop, poke and prod your newfangled pimple, don’t do it! As unpleasant as it might sound, touching your problem areas will only aggravate it and cause a breakout. Further, your fingernails can spread bacteria, causing infection and soreness.
Number Seven: Taste the Rainbow. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables provides great nutrients and antioxidants to fight free-radical damage and support healthy skin. As you get older, your collagen breaks down and your skin changes. Since your body requires vitamin C to synthesize collagen, you’ll want to get optimal amounts from fruits and vegetables like broccoli and berries.
Number Six. Apply Ice. Ice soothes the skin, particularly the affected area. Applying ice will cleanse the oil and dirt trapped inside but also reduces the redness and swelling.
