We already brought you part one of our list of the top 10 Twitter facts you didn’t know, and now we’re back with part two! Check out five more fascinating facts you definitely (probably) didn’t know about the social media platform. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Five: There Is a Hard Copy of Its Archive. The Library of Congress keeps a record of every tweet in its Twitter archive. The goal of the archive is to collect the “story” of America, and apparently, random people voicing their thoughts in 140 characters or less comprises “valuable research material.”

Number Four: It Caused a Huge Drop in the World Market. One person figured out the power of social media when they hacked into the Associated Press’ Twitter account and tweeted that the White House had been blown up, and the president was injured. Because of the tweet, more than $130 billion of shareholder value was lost. Not only that, but it was lost in a matter of minutes.

Number Three: Sweden Has Its Own Account. The entire country of Sweden does, in fact, have its own Twitter account. The account is designed to reflect the overall mood of the country, and every week, a random citizen is chosen to tweet on behalf of the account.

Number Two: It Is More Addictive Than Most Drugs. You might be familiar with the addictive properties of Twitter, but do you know just how addictive it is? Well, studies have found that it’s easier to say no to sex and shopping than it is to say no to tweeting. Some other studies have found that the social media platform is even more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol.

Number One: It Was Almost Called Friendstalker. The original name for Twitter was going to be Friendstalker, and truly, it seems more appropriate. Of its 974 million registered users, only 56 percent end up ever posting a tweet. That’s nearly half of Twitter’s users who are observers, rather than tweeters. Clearly Twitter is a very powerful tool that shouldn’t be taken too lightly. We hope you enjoyed our list of the top 10 Twitter facts you probably didn’t know!
