Number Fifteen: The Ghostie. We all love the iconic little Snapchat ghost mascot, but did you ever wonder if he had a name? If you didn’t know, he does! His name is Ghostface Chillah, named after the beloved rapper from the Wu-Tang Clan, Ghostface Killah.

Number Fourteen: Starting Out. Snapchat was cofounded by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy as early as 2011 from the living room of Spiegel’s father. However, it was Snapchat quite yet at that point. They released the app as Picaboo, which was changed in 2012.

Number Thirteen: Leading to Success. Success doesn’t come instantly; it takes a lot of time and effort to develop a hit product. Founders Spiegel and Murphy created their partnership at Stanford and spent years trying out 34 failed platforms before developing a winner.

Number Twelve: The Statistics. Of all of the iPhone users, about 20.8% are involved with Snapchat. In terms of all users, the number adds up to about 30 million users in the United States alone. In Europe, however, the app has made even larger strides with its audience and is used by more than 25% of all smartphone owners. In addition, it seems that this app is most popular with women, as they account for 70% of their user base.

Number Eleven: Business Side. Snapchat isn’t popular solely with young people, but also investors and businesses. In fact, most of the income that the founders receive is sourced from venture capital firms. From a business aspect, this photo-sharing app provides a unique and effective marketing technique to advertise, as well as appeal to younger crowds.

Number Ten: The Issues. When many people think of Snapchat, their minds immediately are directed to sexting for some reason. Needless to say, the app has encountered its fair share of issues with sexting and bullying as well. They don’t entirely discredit the concept that this may be a safer option for those inclined to sext, but it is a concern primarily for users under the age of 18.

Number Nine: What’s Really Up. However, a large majority of youths don’t even use it for the sexting. Actually, it has gained its popularity from teenagers who aim to share funny pictures and moments, and make jokes. Basically, they just want to express themselves. In fact, only about 2% of college students use it for sexual purposes.
