Kayak (the travel service, not the boat) has quickly become one of the best ways for consumers to find cheap flights, hotels, and other travel options. However, despite the fact that the service has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight and under the scrutiny of the public eye, there are still some things that many people don’t know. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Kayak. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: Its CEO Helped Found Orbitz. The current CEO of Kayak is Steve Hafner. While Kayak was founded in 2004, in 199, Hafner helped found Orbitz. Clearly he has an eye for travel search engines!

Number Fourteen: Not Only Does it Help Find Flights, it Helps Users Navigate Through Airports. Users who download the app can use the app to locate restaurants, ATMs and other shops once they’re at the airport.

Number Thirteen: It Processes More Than One Billion Requests Every Year. According to their website, the search engine processes at least one billion queries every single year. Impressive!

Number Twelve: Users Can Search Its Employees Based on a Humor Index. The website allows visitors to browse the company’s employees based on a “Humor Index.” Visitors can look at employees with a “Lawyer,” “Mild,” “Ironic,” and “Sarcastic” sense of humor.

Number Eleven: Users Can Also Browse Its Employees Based on a Nerd Taxonomy. Seriously! Visitors to the website can browse the company’s employees based on whether they’re interested in Star Trek, Star Wars, comic books or baseball.

Number Ten: The Company Runs More Than One Travel Search Engine. The actual company that operates the Kayak travel search engine is the Kayak Software Corporation. The Corporation also runs two other travel search engines: checkfelix and swoodoo.

Number Nine: It Doesn’t Interact a Whole Lot With Priceline. Despite the fact that Priceline acquired the company in 2013, its CEO, Steve Hafner, has said that Priceline lets them run the show the way they want.
