In 1998, the company launched a television network in an effort to provide consumers with healthier and organic options. The network is called the Walmart Smart Network.
Number Fourteen: Vermont Really Tried to Stop It From Opening
Vermont and Walmart were embroiled in a legal battle for 20 years over a store opening. Vermont really didn’t want any locations in the state, but the company pushed through. It opened its first Vermont location in St. Albans.
Number Thirteen: It’s Hosted a Wedding
It’s true! One couple loved the store so much that they decided to get married there.
Number Twelve: It Makes People Horny
Or one couple, anyway. One couple in Kansas got so worked up while shopping in a Walmart that they took some KY lube and started having sex in the store.
Number Eleven: Every Employee Can Earn Performance-Based Bonuses
The chain has gotten a lot of flack for its practices, but the truth is that it’s quite fair to its employees. Employees are given the opportunity to earn bonuses every quarter based on their performance.
Number Ten: Every Employee Is Issued a Box Cutter
It might sound dangerous, but it’s true. Because the employees are required to work with merchandise so frequently, they’re given box cutters to handle anything with ease.
Number Nine: Employees Are Technically Required to Greet Every Customer in a 10-Foot Radius
It’s no secret that founder Sam Walton was big on customer service. In fact, Walton instated a rule for employees requiring them to make eye contact, greet, and offer help to any customer within 10 feet of them.
