Hawaii: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

If you are a fan of sun, the beach or warm weather, Hawaii is probably on your bucket list. If so, here are some exciting facts that may make you get there sooner.

Number Fifteen: Hawaii Is The Only State with a Tropical Rain Forest

Even if you have never been there, the pictures of the island are breathtaking. Add in the fact that it is the only state to have its own tropical rain forest, and it just keeps getting even more beautiful.

Number Fourteen: It Has the U.S.’s Only Royal Palace

In the United States, castles and palaces are a rarity. You can find the only one, the Iolani Palace, in the city of Honolulu. It even had electric lights before the White House.

Number Thirteen: It’s Made of Over 100 Islands

Unlike the rest of the landlocked United States, Hawaii is completely surrounded by water. There are 132 islands with eight main ones, Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau and Kahoolawe.

Number Twelve: It is The Southernmost Part Of The United States

When traveling there, the flight time is about 10 hours. This makes total sense since the state is the southernmost point of the United States in Ka Lae on the island of Hawaii.

Number Eleven: Unique Things Grow There

Coffee, cocoa and vanilla beans seem pretty common in the American diet. But when you consider that Hawaii is the only state that can grow all three, they seem pretty unique.

Number Ten: Astronauts Were Trained Here

The world’s biggest volcano, Mauna Loa, is in Hawaii. Its large lava fields are just not there for viewing pleasure, they were used as a location to train astronauts for moon voyages.

Number Nine: It’s Not Just Beaches

The beaches there are some of the best places in the world for surfing, snorkeling, and many other water sports. But the Hawaii Islands are the projecting tops of the largest mountain range in the world. The islands were formed millions of years ago by erupting volcanoes.
