Number Fifteen: She Auditioned For ‘American Idol’ Because Of Kelly Clarkson

Once Jennifer Hudson saw Kelly Clarkson win the talent competition, she wanted the same for herself. To test the waters and see if she had the chops for the show, she took a job on a Disney Cruise ship for a year. She auditioned for American Idol two days later.

Number Fourteen: Jennifer Hudson Dropped Out of College

While she enrolled at Langston University, she never finished. She was too homesick and unhappy with the weather to continue.

Number Thirteen: She Had an Entire Year of ‘Artist Development’ After Snagging Her First Record Contract

Jennifer makes it look easy whenever she is on stage which is mainly due to the intense training she received after being given her first record deal. Righteous Records, a Chicago record label gave Hudson her first contract and put her through serious artist development during her first year which included stage presence, on-camera interviewing and songwriting training.

Number Twelve: She Lost More Than 50 Pounds With Weight Watchers and Went on to Represent the Brand

After losing 56 pounds, Hudson was asked to represent the brand Weight Watchers in a series of new commercials. In 2011, she revealed on the Oprah Winfrey Show that she lost a total of 80 pounds.

If anyone can “belt for Jesus” as the saying goes, it is Jennifer Hudson. As a soprano, and a dramatic one at that, she has a vocal range from a C3 to a C#6.

When Jennifer won her Oscar for Dreamgirls (2006), she became the 15th African-American actress to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
