Number Eight: Irv Robbins Had a Swimming Pool Shaped Like an Ice Cream Cone

Number Seven: Robbins Also Ate Cereal With Ice Cream

Rather than pour milk over his morning cereal and leave it at that, Irv Robbins often put banana ice cream on top of his cereal. He reportedly went through a quart of the stuff every few days.

Number Six: Baskin Robbins Had a Flavor Fiasco

The chain introduced a flavor they called “Cold Duck,” which was named after Cold Duck sparkling wine. However, after Japanese stores began promoting the flavor by hanging dead ducks in store windows, they had to do some major PR recovery.

Number Five: Obama Worked at One of Their Stores

It’s true! President Barack Obama himself worked at Baskin Robbins. Other celebrities to work there include Julia Roberts, Taryn Manning, and Eric Dane.

Number Four: Howard Hughes Had an Obsession With It

Specifically, Hughes was a huge fan of the chain’s Banana Nut flavor. Hughes loved the flavor so much that he ordered 100 gallons of it when he learned it was being discontinued.

Number Three: It’s Not All in the Family

Though the two men who started the company were in-laws, it wasn’t always that way. Irv Robbins’ son walked away from the company and had no interest in being associated with it at all.

Number Two: Burt Baskin Died of a Heart Attack

Though Irv Robbins lived until 2008 when he was 91 years old, Burt Baskin died in 1967 when he was just 54 years old. He died of a heart attack.

Number One: The Company Holds Two Impressive World Records

The chain is responsible for producing the largest ice cream scoop pyramid in the world as well as the most ice cream cones scooped in one minute. We hope you enjoyed our list of 15 things you didn’t know about Baskin Robbins!
