Number Eight: Daniel Day-Lewis Once Caught Pneumonia On Set

It happened during the course of shooting of Gangs of New York. Apparently he got the illness because he refused to wear a modern coat that would have kept him warm in the New York City winter.

Number Seven: He Moved Out of His House and Lived Away From His Wife for a Role

He separately from his wife in order to experience the isolation of his character’s life in an island commune. The movie was The Ballad Of Jack And Rose and strangely it was directed by his wife.

Number Six: He Has Scared Off Co-Stars

The main example here is Kel O’Neill, who was slated to work with the actor on There Will Be Blood. The actor was too intimated to continue working with the obviously intense Daniel Day-Lewis and had to be replaced with Paul Dano.

Number Five: Arthur Miller Is His Father-In-Law

He married into American theater royalty. He also persuaded the playwright to meet with his estranged son who had been sent away because of his cerebral palsy years prior.

Number Four: He Once Temporarily Quit Acting to Make Shoes

It happened after filming The Boxer. Daniel then moved to Florence to become an apprentice to a shoemaker – master cobbler Stefano Berner.

Number Three: He Auditioned for Pulp Fiction

The role is now forever tied to John Travolta. But Daniel Day-Lewis tried to get the role of Vincent Vega in Quentin Tarantino’s now-iconic Pulp Fiction to no avail.

Number Two: He Changed His Accent as a Child

He did it to avoid be bullied. Apparently he was picked on in his South London neighborhood so he adopted a rougher, more urban accent to fit in.

Number One: He Is the Only Actor to Have Three Best Actor Oscar Wins
