Top 10 Creepiest Audio Recordings (Part 2)

Welcome back to the list of the 10 creepiest audio recordings. If you read part one, you know that there’s some nightmarish stuff out there. Maybe you even took the time to listen to some of it. If so, you’re in the perfect state of mind to read part two. Find out about more chilling recordings below.

Number Five: Julia

Julia is the name given to a sound recorded by one of the vessels of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Teams. Julia is a sound recorded from the deep sea – a recording done for routine research or to possibly identify imminent natural disasters. It isn’t the sound of a future disaster, but scientists don’t know what it is – other than a haunting, human-like moan.

Number Four: Operation Wandering Soul

The Vietnamese believed that if the dead were not buried in their homeland that their souls would wander aimlessly for all eternity. For obvious reasons, this was a particularly frightening thought during wartime. The United States took advantage of this local superstition and recorded voices to sound like dead Vietnamese to frighten and disturb the people.

Number Three: The Sounds of Saturn

In 2004, a spacecraft was sent to orbit Saturn. It collected data, images – and of course, sounds. The audio recordings of the planet are almost musical, in the sci-fi horror sound kind of way. It is not clear exactly what the recorded sounds are, but they are definitely creepy either way.

Number Two: The Wow Signal

The Wow Signal is a recording that came from deep space, the constellation of Sagittarius. Scientists have no idea what the sound is, especially because they think it comes from a particularly empty part of the universe. Could the signal be transmitted from some moving, floating object in space?

Number One: The Creepiest Recording – Jonestown Massacre Tape

The Jonestown Massacre Tape is of Jim Jones, whose cult killed over 900 people – with Kool-Aid. Jones recorded himself as hundreds died around him. His last words? “I don’t care how many screams you hear. I don’t care how many anguished cries. Death is a million times preferable to ten more days of this life. If you know what was ahead of you, you’d be glad to be stepping over tonight. We committed an act of revolutionary suicide protesting the conditions of an inhumane world.” By the way, since Jones killed all the children first, all of their parents were forced to watch them die (before dying themselves).
