Alicia Keys has leaked her own news! She recently disclosed to Women’s Wear Daily while promoting Givenchy’s new fragrance Dahlia Divin that she has a new album up her sleeve, tentatively set to be released early next year (2015).

Her latest record, Girl On Fire (released 2012) was by far her most elegant and sophisticated album yet, inspired by the birth of her son Egypt Daoud Dean and marriage to husband Swizz Beatz. Ever praised for her piano skills and vocal talents, Keys managed to pull off the girl power theme with style on this album.

She is indeed a girl with the power of fire, as she is juggling several projects at once right now, for not only does she sing, write songs, produce albums and act, but she also has a feature film-television and theatrical production company, AKW Productions, and owns the Chelsea studio where she records. On top of all that, she is a wife and mom! Even with her plate more than full, Keys doesn’t want to put down her recording just yet as she hopes to use it to open up new ways to communicate with people. She sites one song as an example, “Killing Your Mother”, which she says is not to be taken literally of course; it’s about emotions, a topic more than a few people are likely to identify with.

She also has an opinion about the fact that many artists have been releasing singles instead of comprehensive full-length albums more and more in recent years. Gone are the days of going down to your favorite local record store on a rainy day and flipping through crates of vinyl for hours until you found the one you couldn’t wait to get home and completely submerse yourself in. If the artist had managed to speak to you through the collection of pieces on the album, you would reemerge altered. An album is a full experience. A single is a moment.

True, singles make more money, with online sellers such as iTunes catering to the sale of singles, but there’s still something special, more meaningful about a full length, conceptualized album. And that’s just was Keys is after. She says,

“With this album, I find I have much more I want to talk about. This album is more about the concept, the thought I’m trying to get across, where in the past it’s been more about the melody. This time it’s more about what we’re going through as human beings. We all experience similar things. I find that the world puts us in these boxes where we’re only allowed to be one way — like, ‘to succeed as a career woman, you need to do it this way,’ or ‘to be a gay man, you have to be this way.’ First of all, we’re so much more complex than that. It’s about breaking down those boundaries. The songs concentrate on concepts like that. As human beings, we like to identify with something, and as for me, I love people with a strong point of view.”
