Last night the Teen Choice Awards brought out all of the biggest young stars to the LA Shrine Auditorium (a last minute change of venue, after UCLA’s Pauly Pavillion was flooded with water). Winners are taken from online voters aged 13 to 19, who select the best out of the five nominees.

Artists from many different genres took home awards, though the big winners of the night were Demi Lovato, who bagged Female Summer Music star and choice summer song for “I Really Don’t Care,” and Ariane Grande, who beat out heavy hitters like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift for Choice Music Star award. Also worth mentioning is Selena Gomez‘s Ultimate Choice Award win, which made her the youngest ever to win the “lifetime” achievement award.

The rest of the big winners included Jason Derulo being crowned Choice Male Star right before he takes his worldwide tour his tour to the United States, and One Direction winning for Best Twit, the award given to the band with the best Twitter account. One Direction’s win represented an interesting voting faceoff between fans of the British boy band and the horde of Justin’s Beliebers.

Sadly, FDRMX favorite Boyce Avenue lost the Choice Web Star award to Vine breakout star Shawn Mendes. Mendes was the clear favorite for the award after becoming the youngest artist to debut a song in the top 25 for “Life of the Party.” Chances are that this time next year Mendes will be a contender for Choice Male Star, Period.
