There are several media reports suggesting that Beyoncé will perform at the Grammy Awards as part of a Selma tribute. Whether she performs or not, Beyoncé is expected to be at the awards show. The R&B singer is nominated for six awards, including Album of the Year (Beyoncé) and Best R&B Performance (“Drunk in Love”). Common and John Legend have been confirmed to perform “Glory,” which is from the film, Selma, at this year’s Grammys. Last month, Common and Legend’s “Glory” won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Their song is also nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards show. The movie Selma is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., James Bevel, and Hosea Williams led the historic marches from Selma to Montgomery, which was a fifty-four mile walk.
The Grammy Awards will also pay tribute to the legendary Stevie Wonder. Usher, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Willie Nelson, Ed Sheeran, and Janelle Monae will all take part in the Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life – An All Star Grammy Salute. It was recently reported that Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande will also join in on the tribute, but the Recording Academy has not confirmed the reports. The recording artists will pick one song from Stevie Wonder’s extensive music catalog and perform it at the awards show.
Ed Sheeran released a statement in regards to the tribute, “Stevie Wonder is an absolute legend and I am so honored to be a part of this very special night.” Some of Stevie Wonder’s biggest hits include “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” “Superstition,” and “Ebony and Ivory.” The musician has accumulated more than thirty Top Ten singles, and he has received twenty-five Grammy Awards. During his music career, Wonder has sold over 100 million albums and singles. The musician has released over twenty studio albums since his debut effort, The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie in 1962. Stevie Wonder was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, he was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as well.
