Blink-182 used Instagram to post a picture of themselves that announced in the caption “Rehearsals start today…. And yes there will be a new album #SorryForTheWait #Blink.” The photo is of guitarist and vocalist Tom Delonge and his bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker looking rather young and happy. First Garth Brooks, Pink Flyod and now Blink-182 are all getting back in the game! Fans of the pop-punk band are absolutely stoked that the wait is nearly over.
The album Delonge speaks of will be Blink-182’s seventh studio album and their first full-length LP since “Neighborhoods” was released in 2011. Despite Delonge’s reassurances on Instagram, this next album still does not have an official release date, though work on new material had started back in May of 2013. Previously the band had said that the new album would be released by the middle of 2014, hopefully before the Reading and Leeds Festivals which Blink-182 will be headlining along with Paramore, Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age this year. But then Hoppus announced on Twitter in early 2014 that the band was working on demos, and now here we are halfway through July and still waiting.
In April of this year, Hoppus further revealed that Delonge (who escaped a California wildfire approaching his studio this past May) might be causing the delayed release of the album, and Barker has claimed that the band needs to “get their sh*t together” before they can actually record the new album. Ah, the sounds of internal band disagreements. Meanwhile, fans will continue to wait. For those of you who just can’t, you can watch Hoppus host the inaugural AP Music Awards, which will take place on July 21, 2014. If you happen to be at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on August 6 or 8, you have a chance to view an intimate show as the band gears up for headlining Reading and Leeds that Bank Holiday weekend.
