It was quite a shock for an animal rescuer to see their pictures on a social media post: 2 kittens, both born without their back legs, in need of a home. The kittens, Frog and Newt, are a testament to the amazing power of animals.

16. Frog and Newt

Two kitten brothers, Newt (black and white) and Frog (tabby), share a very special bond. Both kittens are from the same litter and were born with only two legs. Despite their differences from other cats, they don’t appear to have any trouble getting around. They are able to play just as freely as their four-legged counterparts.

15. Saving Lives

Alley Cats and Kittens, a non-profit that saves cats, was alerted to the boys’ plight via a Facebook story and convinced the kittens’ owner to give them up. Immediately Steph Taylor, cat rescuer and foster mom in Merseyside, England, stepped up to foster them. Taylor is the founder of Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary and knew she could give the kittens the much-needed care they deserved.

14. Balancing

Taylor marvels at the kittens’ skilled movements. “Both kittens were born without their back legs but cope amazingly well. They are able to walk on their front legs and use their tails for balance. They can climb and even jump down. There are no mobility issues.” The missing back legs was likely due to inbreeding but when you see these kittens go, you can see they’re not fazed at all.

13. Love

Taylor noticed right away that the two cats seem to complete each other. They were fiercely devoted to each other. You couldn’t keep them apart and they patiently wait for each other to begin playing.

12. Bonded

“They are very bonded. They groom each other and purr cuddle together. When Newt was at the vet’s having his procedure, Froggy pined and refused to eat,” Steph added. These kittens were quite a pair and it was good that the rescue agency kept them together in the same home. What’s more amazing is that their deformity is really rare and yet two kittens from the same litter have it.

11. Strong

Since the two kittens have never known what it is like to have four legs, they are amazingly strong. They balance their entire bodies on their two front legs. The fact that they have just two legs isn’t even apparent sometimes! Of course, they also like to just relax and chill.

10. Climbing

The kittens climb to amazing heights and run across the floor. They are just as active as any other kittens. They can even ascend to the top of the scratching post with ease. They’re here with Ellen-Rae, their sister. Ellen-Rae is also disabled in that she can’t see but she loves to frolic with these two. You can often find them on the hunt.

9. Personality Plus

Newt and Frog have distinct personalities. Taylor said, “They are both amazing and such a joy. They are so happy and playful.” We’ll say, look at how sassy Frog is here! They can be found frolicking around the house and playing together.

8. Purr Machines

“Frog is a diva and vocal, and Newty is inquisitive and quiet but has the funniest face. They are both purr machines,” Taylor says. They also like to cuddle up with her and the other house animals. Clearly, they’re still adventurous even during so-called “bedtime.”

7. Inquisitory

Newt always wants to be in humans’ business, inquiring about what everyone is doing. Here he is patiently waiting for his brother to finish dinner so they can wrestle. If you’ve ever had a kitten, you know how they can get into anything! These two can spell double trouble!

6. Healthy and Happy

The kittens are perfectly healthy, but they have special needs as far as diet and potty habits go. The animal rescue group is committed to fostering them for as long as it takes. “They will stay long term with us in our headquarter home,” Taylor says. It takes a lot of money to foster and rescue kittens but its worth it as you can tell just from these pictures.

5. Friends

Frog and Newt are highly socialized since they live with other foster pets. They are also famous online and even have their own Facebook fan page! Many people can’t wait to see how these adorable kittens grow up.

4. Chloe

Even cats without all four limbs or those who are paralyzed can live full and amazing lives. This kitten named Chloe was saved by Hannah Shaw, better known as the Kitten Lady. Chloe’s kittens were injured from suspected abuse and X-rays later showed she had a broken back. Here’s Chloe on the day of her rescue.

3. Scampering

Khloe would have been euthanized if Kitten Lady hadn’t saved her. After taking Khloe to several specialists, it became apparent that she would never move her back legs. But that doesn’t matter since Khloe can scamper with the best of them. She even preferred to run around without a special 3-D wheelchair.

2. New Home

Khloe was adopted to a loving family with another orange cat, Doogie, and is now thriving in her new home. She runs, climbs, and spies on the neighbors. She loves to kick back on her scratching post after ascending it with her front paws.

1. Normal Kittens

As for Frog and Newt, “They are such amazing and special boys. They know no different than the life they have led with only two legs. They play, run, jump, chase, eat, drink all just like a normal kitten,” said Taylor. The boys should have a good life together for many years to come.
