Pop superstar Britney Spears has officially announced the release date for her upcoming single “Pretty Girls,” which will be featuring an appearance from the “Fancy” hit-maker Iggy Azalea. The single, which has been teased by both Spears and Azalea in recent months, is set to drop on May 5th. It is unclear if that is the official release date to radio or if that will be the first time that fans will hear “Pretty Girls” at all.
Earlier this week, there was speculation that Spears and Azalea would debut “Pretty Girls” onstage at the iHeartRadio Music Awards alongside the likes of Madonna and Rihanna. Although this news makes rumors of the impending performance unlikely, it adds one more dimension of mystique to the song that Spears and Azalea has been promoting for months. Both women have teased information about the single in short statements until earlier this month, Azalea confirmed the single’s title. The song was written by Azalea alongside UK girl group Little Mix, but beyond that, all we know is that it has been described by Spears as something that a DJ would happily play at the club.
“Pretty Girls” will be Britney Spears’ first single release since she released her Sia co-penned “Perfume” in November of 2013. Armed with a music video, the single failed to perform to expectations, peaking at number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100, effectively bringing an end to Spears’s Britney Jean era. Azalea is currently promoting “Trouble,” a collaboration with Jennifer Hudson that will signify the end of her Reclassified era releases.
Although new music is on the horizon, Spears’ focus remains on her family, especially her two children, Sean Preston (aged 9) and Jayden James (aged 8). “My kids come first in my life, bottom line,” Spears announced. When Britney Spears isn’t taking the stage for a performance of her Britney: Piece of Me Las Vegas Residency or recording her next big hit, Spears is spending time with her boys, whom she lovingly refers to as “little men.”
Spears described her oldest son, Sean Preston, as being “very opinionated, very expressive” going on to explain “if he doesn’t like something he’s going to tell you. But he has a huge heart.” Conversely, Jayden James is “sweet, very soft-spoken, kinda funny,” and a “momma’s boy” at heart. With her boys and current boyfriend, Charlie Ebersol, by her side and new music on the horizon, Britney Spears seems to be in a good place. After years of hardship, she says without a doubt that “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
