Caitlyn Jenner on Cover of Vanity Fair

Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner of the Kardashian clan, has undergone one of the most publicly scrutinized gender transition surgeries of our time. The former Olympic gold medal winner recently gave a two-day intimate photo shoot to Annie Leibowitz of Vanity Fair magazine, and the results are stunning. Jenner also gave an exclusive interview to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Buzz Bissinger. In this interview, she told Bissinger that she underwent a ten-hour facial-feminization operation on March 15, and that the recovery was difficult. She second-guessed her decision a lot in the days and weeks after the painful surgery, but ultimately, now, she feels good. And she looks good, too, in these beautiful and revealing Vanity Fair photos.

“If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life. You never dealt with yourself,’ and I don’t want that to happen,” Jenner confided to Bissinger in the interview. Jenner has four grown children from two previous marriages, all of whom have described Jenner (formerly Bruce) as a neglectful and absent father. The new Jenner (now Caitlyn) has expressed heartfelt regret at the parenting mistakes she once made as Bruce. She claims to not be bothered when people around her get their pronouns confused. This is because the transition is still very fresh, so you can call her “he” or “she”, at least for the time being. Both feel natural.

Overall, Jenner’s family and children have been understanding and supportive of the transition. It is clearly something that means a lot to her. Jenner even reports finally being able to bond with his daughter on the feminine level for the first time in her life, which is very rewarding. However, in spite of this renewed relationship, Jenner’s children have declined to participate in the E! channel documentary about Jenner’s transition. This bruised Jenner’s feelings a little bit, but ultimately, she says she understands that it is a lot of ask of one’s children. In response to criticism that the whole thing is just a publicity stunt, or a scheme to make a profit, Jenner has stated that she doesn’t mind making a little bit of money out of theatrically documenting her transition and healing process.

The VF photo shoot took place at Jenner’s home in Malibu, California. Jenner is estimated to be worth more than $100 million.
