Calvin Harris is most well known in the UK, though he is beginning to gain fame in the rest of the world as well. He’s not only a DJ, but also a singer and producer. Here are some things you didn’t know about him.

Number Fifteen: He Started Out in His Own Bedroom

Calvin was born in Scotland in 1984. He began by creating electronic songs in his bedroom and had already made a few demos by year 2000.

Number Fourteen: Calvin Harris Gained Popularity Through Myspace

He didn’t really become recognized until he started uploading his music onto Myspace. The songs got him so much attention, that he won a publishing contract and recording deal with Sony.

Number Thirteen: Famous Collaborations

He’s worked with a lot of well known celebrities. Among this impressive list of stars are Kylie Minogue, Kelis, and Rihanna.

Number Twelve: He Turned Down Lady GaGa

Back before she became a worldwide pop phenomenon, Lady GaGa e-mailed him and asked him to work with her. He thought her name was ridiculous and didn’t like her song, so he said no. A year later she was a huge hit, but he still didn’t regret saying no.

Number Eleven: The X Factor Prank

Harris interrupted an X Factor performance by wandering out onto the stage with a pineapple atop his head. Simon Cowell was particularly angry, and saw to it that he was banned from the show for the rest of his life. That’s pretty harsh, Simon.

Number Ten: He Doesn’t Take Kindly to Bad Reviews

Although he’s had plenty of positive feedback, when he got harsh criticisms in The Guardian, he didn’t take it so well, and felt very insulted. This led him to say that “rich people’s kids are getting good reviews because mummy f**ked the journo in the ’80s”. Ouch.

Number Nine: He Changed His Name

He wasn’t always known by the name he goes by nowadays. He used to be called Adam Richard Wiles. We hope you enjoyed part one of our list of interesting facts about Calvin Harris. Check back for the second half, coming soon!
