Charli XCX has announced that she will be moving forward with the release of “Famous” as yet another single from Sucker, her most recent album. “Famous” is a punk-inspired anthem to living life on the wild side with all the glamour of a famous celebrity. The bright ode is lush with guitar and drum line, while Charli’s voice rises defiantly over the production.
This is Charli XCX’s fourth single off her 2014 release Sucker. Charli kicked the album off with the release of “Boom Clap,” which went on to become the album’s biggest hit thus far. Charli has revealed that she wrote the song with Hilary Duff in mind, but Duff’s team passed on recording the single. She decided to keep it and release it herself, and it has become one of the most defining songs of Charli’s career. The song made its way onto the soundtrack for 2014’s The Fault In Our Stars, and it peaked in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Riding the success of “Boom Clap,” Sucker debuted at number 28 on American charts.
After the success of “Boom Clap,” the album’s next single “Break The Rules” failed to achieve the same level of success on American radio. Charli followed up by teaming up with fellow UK musician Rita Ora for a remix of “Doing It,” which was a fan favorite on Sucker at the time of release. The single was supported with a colorful Bonnie and Clyde-inspired music video as well as a series of performances; however, it still has not matched “Boom Clap’s” level of success.
Although her solo singles are not performing as well as expected, Charli XCX is no stranger to the limelight. She will also be appearing alongside Tinashe and Ty Dolla Sign on Ty’s “Drop That Kitty Down Low,” which was released in January. The trio were seen on the set of a music video, which is expected for a release in the near future.
Charli XCX is gearing up to join Katy Perry on the European leg of her Prismatic World Tour, which kicked off on February 16th in Barcelona Spain. The European shows come to a close on March 22nd in Stockholm Sweden, and it has not been announced if Charli will be continuing with Perry on the Asian and South American legs of the show.
