Earlier in the week we announced that the hip hop group Outkast would be performing a one day festival extraordinaire at their hometown of Atlanta. In it we hinted that appearances from other artists might be announced in the days to come. Well, the news has come and it didn’t take long at all. Outkast announced this morning that Childish Gambino, Kid Cudi, and 18 year old musical prodigy Raury will be the openers for the ATL legends’ triumphant homecoming.
The news is especially big for Raury, who at this moment has a paltry 2300 likes on Facebook. With such big company around him, the ATLast concert will be a huge popularity boon for the young artist. Raury has vocalized his excitement, stating to Creative Loafing that “To perform on the same stage as the people that inspired me to do music is an overwhelming feeling. The joy, excitement, happiness, and fear must be exactly what it feels like to be alive. I’m glad OutKast is giving me the opportunity to show Atlanta who’s really gonna be the future of this city.”
The bigger stars have wasted no time in celebrating their involvement in one of the biggest concerts of the year. Kid Cudi tweeted this morning “Dream come true opening for Outkast, holy fu-k lets go!”. Childish Gambino has yet to release such an ecstatic statement but he may be busy in the wake of his collaborations with Chance the Rapper. Both Childish Gambino and Outkast performed at The Governor’s Ball a few weeks ago.
It is believed that this is not the final list of artists to open Outkast’s festival, though it is unknown who else will join the band. There is a lot of time between now and the September 27th concert date for many more announcements to come. Outkast members Andre 3000 and Big Boi will be using Atlanta’s Centennial Park as the site of the concert. It will conclude a tour with 40 different stops that began with their bombastic return at Coachella.
Tickets are on sale tonight at 10 PM and can be bought here. Prices range from $55 to $250.
