I have been waiting for Christina Perri’s music video for “The Words” for what seems like forever, and it’s finally here! Let me just say, the wait was completely worth it. The song comes off of her Head or Heart album, which was released in early 2014. I actually didn’t fall in love with the song when I first heard it, don’t get me wrong, it’s a great song, but it often got skipped when listening to the album. Then, I saw Christina Perri live in concert; she performed “The Words” and I became obsessed with the song. The conviction in which she sang the song with captured my whole being and brought chills down my spine.

When she announced that her next single off of Head or Heart would be “The Words,” I couldn’t help but be excited about the possibility of the music video. This song is a true love song, describing the roller coaster of emotions that one goes through when falling in love. From realizing that you are in love, to wishing and hoping that your significant other responds with the words: I love you.

The music video stars Colin O’Donoghue from Once Upon a Time, a great leading man, in my humble opinion. The video opens with him driving up to a house and taking flowers out of a pick-up truck while Christina Perri sings on the steps of the house. One clip she’s there singing on the steps, a second later she disappears, one more second and she’s back singing on the steps. So, I’ll be honest, one minute into the video and I thought Christina Perri was playing a ghost of a woman that Colin had loved and lost. Spoiler Alert: I was wrong.

The video takes us through the day of this man who is clearly going through an internal struggle. The entire time Christina Perri is appearing and dis-appearing from his day. He then drives his car to a flower shop in the city where he sees Christina Perri (the real woman, not a figment of his imagination). By the end of the video you realize that Colin O’Donoghue is in love with this woman that he has never even spoken to, which is why she invades his thoughts throughout the day. The video, of course, has a happy ending when O’Donoghue finally introduces himself to Christina Perri which leads you to believe that a beautiful love story is blooming.

Christina Perri and the team behind this music video got everything right with this one. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Ms. Perri. I know she’s not done touring her Head or Heart album, but is it too soon to start begging for new music from her?
