Rockefeller Center drew tens of thousands into New York City this evening, as everyone gathered to watch the 82nd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The show featured a dazzling lineup of musical guests, including Cyndi Lauper, Pentatonix, Ingrid Michaelson, and LeAnn Rimes. FDRMX met up with them to find out which holiday traditions they are most excited about this year.
“On Christmas morning, I’m always up way before the kids because I’m so excited,” laughed country pop star LeAnn Rimes. “They all want to sleep in, but I’m usually in the kitchen banging pots and pans, trying to get them to wake up and open all the presents.”
Indie pop singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson told us she’s “obsessed with Christmas,” so it’s tough to pick just one favorite tradition. “I think what gives me the most joy is putting Christmas movies on and baking all day,” she said. “I don’t really pay attention to the movies because I know them so well, but that’s one of my favorite days, when I just bake and watch movies all day long.” She added that her favorite holiday movie is A Christmas Story.
All members of Pentatonix, the chart-topping a capella group who won the third season of The Sing-Off, are happy to be spending time with their families this year. “I just love coming home, I never see my family so when we’re all together on Christmas it’s always really fun,” said tenor Mitch Grassi. This holiday season, bass singer Avi Kaplan is looking forward to sledding with his family in Bishop, California. Mezzo-soprano Kirstie Maldonado told us her favorite tradition is “Just baking cookies with my mom and decorating the house.”
