Dan Auerbach Says New Solo Album Will be ‘Weird’

Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys is releasing a new solo project entitled the Arcs. The singer and self-proclaimed boxer stated he is dropping two boxing-inspired singles, “Stay in My Corner” and “Tomato Can.” Both singles will be available on vinyl May 2nd, which is the day Floyd Mayweather will fight Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas. Fans can purchase the new singles on this websiteThe Arcs will come out some time this summer, but Auerbach has not announced the specific release date. “I just wanted to do my thing and get extra weird. I wanted everything to flow- be cohesive,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. He added,”A lot of the songs bleed one into the other, a lot like the Grateful Dead- my favorite records that they did. I’ve got a lot of connected songs. It’s basically everything I love about music wrapped up into one record.”

Auerbach also revealed the entire album was recorded in two weeks, and a lot of his favorite artists will make guest appearances on the project, although he wouldn’t say who those artists are. The rocker told Rolling Stone that the artwork and music videos for the Arc will be just as weird as the music. “I’m just finishing up the artwork now, and working on a cartoon video with this kid who lives in Bakersfield who’s never made a video before,” Auerbach said. He continued,”It’s kind of ridiculous. I’m just having fun-basically making music with no responsibility.”

In related Black Keys’ news, Auerbach told Rolling Stone that the duo plans on rescheduling the tour dates that were canceled because of Patrick Carney’s shoulder injury. The rocker said they hope to make up those dates this summer. That rescheduled tour dates are expected to be announced soon, which should reveal concert dates in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Paris, and Switzerland.

The Black Keys have released eight studio albums including The Big Come Up, Thickfreakness, Rubber Factory, Magic Potion, Attack & Release, Brothers, El Camino, and Turn Blue. Their latest project, Turn Blue, was dropped last year. It features the singles “Fever,” “Turn Blue,” “Bullet in the Brain,” “Gotta Get Away,” and “Weight of Love.”
