You never know when or how a friendship will pop up in your life and that’s exactly what happened with these two! When Max the dog and Quackers the duck were introduced, no one expected them to get along. However, these two were able to set their differences aside and start up an unbreakable bond.
20. The Pals
Meet Max, a 12-year-old Husky, and Quackers, a 4-year-old duck. Believe it or not, these two happen to be best friends! So how exactly did this friendship happen?
These two were introduced in the small town of Strout, Minnesota. The town is only home to 25 people and all of the residents look forward to see Max and Quackers each day. “Sometimes on my way home I actually hope they’re out there because they’re just too precious to look at,” one neighbor, Alisa Godejahn said.
18. Always Together
One of the sweetest parts about this odd friendship is how close these two actually are! Residents in the town can often spot the pair traveling side by side on Highway 28 – no matter what the weather. This often creates a huge traffic jam for everyone around as everyone wants to snap a pic!
17. The Start
It all began when Max was adopted at 5 years old by Patrick and Kirsten Riley. The couple already had one other husky named Sasha. Max and Sasha quickly became best friends and were inseparable. Then one day, something terrible happened…
16. Unfortunate Events
Unfortunately, a few years later, Sasha passed away. This left Max absolutely heartbroken as Sasha had been his very best friend. Max was lonely and all he wanted was a friend to be there for him. That’s when Quackers came into the picture.
15. New Friend
Quackers was adopted into the Riley’s home when he was only a tiny duckling. The little duckling was having a hard time getting along with others and was also feeling pretty lonely. The Riley’s believe that this is how the friendship between the two ultimately began.
14. No Other Friends
“He was without any friends, and so Max would sit next to his pen all the time and I think they just kind of bonded that way,” owner Patrick Riley told WCCO. “After we let him out, they just never left each other’s side.”
13. A Close Bond
It seems that what these two ultimately shared was a mutual loneliness that could only be solved through friendship. They found comfort in one another and started up an amazing bond. In fact, you won’t believe just how close these two actually are!
“They sleep together, they eat together, they drink together, they go for walks together down the road. Everything is together,” Kirsten said when explaining their relationship. Most of the time, however, the pair enjoys taking a walk along Highway 28.
11. Tons of Attention
“We see people stopping over there all the time. The traffic gets clogged up over there sometimes because of all the pictures getting taken,” Alisa Godejahn explained. The best part is that everyone ends up sending the photo’s to the Riley’s! So how do the Riley’s feel about it?
10. Loving It
The Riley’s absolutely love getting photos from their neighbors and friends of Max and Quackers. “They love it. They say it brightens their day. They’re so happy to see this different friendship and love,” Kirtsen said. However, although the pair bring happiness to so many, Max himself hasn’t been at the top of his game lately.
9. Getting Older
Max is no longer a young pup and the signs of aging have begun to settle down on him. His health has been a concern to the Riley’s and so that makes the friendship between Max and Quackers even more special.
8. A True Friend
“Some people have said that a duck will find a mate, a companion, and once they have that companion they’re set,” Kirsten said. “And that’s what Quackers found with Max.” While it is a rare occurrence, unusual animal friendships do happen! You won’t believe the friendship shared between a chicken and a group of puppies.
Meet Mable, the one-year-old hen. Mable lives in Shrewsbury, Britain and she happens to be quite different from many other hens her age. So what makes her so different?!
6. A Dog
What makes Mable different is the fact that she really believes that she is a dog! So how did this happen? Well it all started when she took on the role of surrogate mother to a group of puppies.
Owners Edward and Ros Tate saved Mable when she was just a tiny chick and have since made her a family pet. However, when the Tate’s dog, Nettie, gave birth to a litter of puppies, Mable was more than intrigued. She immediately wanted to be a mother!
4. Snuggled Up
“We have a dog, Nettle, which has just given birth to a litter of pups. Within a few days of giving birth, Nettle was up and about, prowling in the yard Mabel observed Nettle’s behaviour and, as soon as there was a chance, she hoped into the dog basket to roost on the pups,” Edward explained.
3. Keeping Warm
Mable loves keeping herself and the pups warm whenever Nettle isn’t around. The Tate’s constantly see her playing with the pups and engaging in motherly duties. It’s almost unbelievable!
2. Second Mother
“She keeps them and herself warm, while Nettle is outside on the yard,” Edward said. Now the lucky pups have a second mother that absolutely loves spending time with them!
1. Unusual Friendships
Although different species of animals don’t usually become friends, it does happen. However, when it does, the friendships always seem to be incredibly inspiring and amazing!
