Ed Sheeran has revealed today that he will be taking a rest from his music, after his world tour draws to a close. His tour is due to finish on April 11th in New Zealand, but he revealed that he wants to take some time off after this tour which will take him to the UK, America, Australia, New Zealand and most of Europe.
Recently, he said “I haven’t had any time off since before I signed my record deal and I want some! I’ll do what I enjoy and it won’t feel like work.” This new announcement has come as a huge disappointment to Ed’s large fan base, who had been circulating rumours of a new single being released for the festive season at the end of 2014. This plan for a highly anticipated new song came after the 23 year old teased over social media that he had been working on something special to release around Christmas.
Instead, it now seems that this new track will be ready to be released towards the end of 2015, with Ed Sheeran saying that he wants to leave large enough gaps in between releasing songs, so that he doesn’t overload people with new material. He said, “[The Christmas song] won’t be out this Christmas. I have “Thinking Out Loud” as a single going into Christmas.” This new single, that has only be released recently has already proved to be a massive success, with the unusual music video also proving to be very popular with his fans.
“If I saw an artist have a string of hits, and album that did well, a hit going into Christmas and then they did a Christmas single I’d think, ‘Ooh, that’s overkill.'” The grounded singer appears to be aware of not overloading his fans with everything all at once. This delay in releasing the track has only increased the anticipation, excitement and speculation, particularly on social media platforms such as Twitter, where he has over ten and a half million followers.
“If my song came out next year or the year after, when I haven’t released anything for a while, it will be bigger.” In the meantime, the award winning singer has announced that he doesn’t want to release anymore tracks from his CD X, as he has already released three tracks, and wants to follow in the footsteps of other global superstars who have chosen to do the same. Musicians such as Adele and Taylor Swift succeeded with their albums after releasing just three of their tracks, and he wants to emulate their success with his latest album. However, he also said “I’ll probably end up with four singles so I have a song to go to the Brit Awards with next year.”
