Five Albums You Can’t Afford to Miss This May

Five Albums You Cant Afford to Miss This May - FDRMX

From R&B, to Indie Rock. From funky disco pop, to Hip Hop, the month of May is set up to bring more great albums to the world. Here, I’ve compiled a tightly knit list, comprising of five of my most anticipated records to be released in the coming month…

Number Five: Kwabs – Love + War.

Kwabs – Love + War

Having released a number of incredible EPs and playing a bunch of festivals last summer, R&B crooner Kwabs finally revealed plans to release his debut album Love + War via Atlantic Records. Out May 18th/19th, the record will twelve songs in total, including previously heard singles “Walk” and “Perfect Ruin”. Expect to hear more, lush R&B sounds with Kwabs’ rich, unique and soulful voice at the forefront.

Number Four: Mumford & Sons – Wilder Mind.

Mumford & Sons – Wilder Mind

After an almost three year wait, British folk-rock band Mumford & Sons announced the follow up to 2012’s Grammy Award winning Babel. Latest singles “Believe” and “The Wolf”, see the band’s aesthetic take a change in direction, swapping the folk-centric sounds of the previous album, for a thicker, rockier aesthetic. Replacing banjos for electric guitars; it’ll be interesting to hear what the rest of the album sounds like, come the 5th of May.

Number Three: Ciara – Jackie.

Ciara – Jackie

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over ten years since R&B songstress Ciara made her emphatic debut with Goodies. Now, engaged to rapper Future, the singer returns with Jackie; her first album as a mother. Lead single “I Bet” didn’t make quite the splash on the charts, but it served as a sweet teaser for the rest of the album. Ciara’s voice sounds as strong as ever, so I wouldn’t rule this one out.

Number Two: Shamir – Ratchet.

Shamir – Ratchet

Hailing from Nevada, Las Vegas, twenty year-old singer/songwriter Shamir (Bailey) has one of the most distinct and refreshing voices around. Signed to London’s XL Recordings, the singer is set to release his debut album Ratchet, the follow up to last year’s well received Northtown EP, on the 19th of May. Bringing his own eclectic slice of disco laced with pop elements with the likes of “On the Regular” and “Call It Off” (whose accompanying visual was released as part of the 2015 YouTube Music Awards), Shamir’s debut offering will both shock and pleasantly surprise you, all at once.

Number One: A$AP Rocky – At. Long. Last. A$AP.

A$AP Rocky – At. Long. Last. A$AP

2015 seems to be the year of Hip Hop. We’re nearing the end of May, and we’ve already seen albums from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, Drake, Heems, Earl Sweatshirt and more. As if things couldn’t get any better, A$AP Rocky’s long awaited sophomore offering, At. Long. Last. A$AP will drop May 12th featuring the singles “Multiply”, along with the Mike Dean co- produced “M’$”. Other contributions from the likes of Lykke Li and Clams Casino are an exciting prospect, but it’s the collaboration with FKA twigs which intrigues the most.
