Word on the street earlier this week was that comic music duo Flight of the Conchords would be renewing their HBO special series, Flight of the Conchords this year, based on an interview Jemaine Clement had with The Guardian. What he mentioned was a four-episode comedy, but apparently it has nothing to do with the Flight of the Conchords series. Fans would not believe. To clear up the misunderstanding, Clement tweeted Tuesday night, “Before this rumour gets out of hand – we are not working on a 4 ep Conchords show for hbo. I am working on another idea with them though, hence the mix-up.” Fans of the Conchords are undoubtedly upset, especially as the show has been on a five year long hiatus since its mere two season stint ended in 2009.

As for future collaborations with his band mate Bret McKenzie, Clement admitted they could do many an epic project together. “We talk about a movie every so often. Sometimes it feels like we lost a lot of impetus over the last couple of years,” Clemente mentioned to Uproxx. “But Bret, [lead director] James [Bobin] and me, we all want to do a musical,” he elaborated. “It would be good to do something all together…I miss playing Flight of the Conchords gigs.” As for the new four-episode HBO special, Clement explains that it was supposed to be done this year, but then, “we decided to put What We Do in the Shadows out ourselves.” What We Do in the Shadows is a comedy horror mockumentary about a vampire living in present-day society.

After the TV show, which originally started as a BBC Radio program about exaggerated versions of Clement and McKenzie trying to find gigs and make rent in New York like most musicians do, both guys went on to have successful show biz careers independently. McKenzie has been writing film music, and most recently was appointed music supervisor for two Muppet movies; The Muppets (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014). His work has won him an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Clement has scored roles in several films, including Boris the Animal in Men in Black 3 and Nigel in Rio. Currently, he is working on promoting his film, What We Do in the Shadows, which was released in New Zealand this past June. Fans meanwhile are keeping their fingers crossed for that Flight of the Conchords musical to be set in stone.
