George Foreman was born on January 10, 1949, in America. He’s a former pro boxer and Olympic gold medal winner. Not only this, but he’s an author and a businessman. Here is part one of our list of facts about him.

Number Fifteen: George Foreman Had a Troubled Past

In his autobiography, George talks about his rebellious teen years. He dropped out of high school at age 15, and, later on, he joined something known as the Job Corps.

Number Fourteen: Boxing for Weight Loss

He originally got into boxing as a way to lose weight and a way to win fights in street boxing. Once he got into the sport, he enjoyed it so much, he lost all interest in street fighting.

Number Thirteen: Proud to Wear Boxing Uniforms

At the age 19, he never had a chance to serve, and lots of his friends would come home in their military uniforms. Once he started wearing his own boxing uniforms, he was proud to sport them even if he didn’t always win.

Number Twelve: Happy to Represent America

When Foreman won his first gold medal, he wanted everyone to know where he was from, so he picked up a small USA flag and paraded around the boxing ring with it. He saw this as an opportunity to represent his country.

Number Eleven: Originally, He Just Wanted to Make Some Money

His first plan was to finish college and get a good job, but people kept telling him he could earn lots of money boxing, so he hoped for that. He was actually surprised at how successful he became in that world.

Number Ten: He Expected His Fight With Ken Norton to Be the Hardest

Since the man was big just like George himself, with the muscles to match, George knew he was going to be facing a challenge. He trained harder for this fight than any other fight.

Number Nine: Mike Tyson Didn’t Want to Fight Him
