The 2014 New York Governors Ball closes out today after a three day run of a very impressive lineup of artist. Performances from some of today’s greatest artists of almost every genre yet again drew thousands to the concert. Some of the heavy hitting performers included headliner Outkast, The Strokes, Disclosure, Vampire Weekend, Jack White, Skrillex, Childish Gambino and Interpol.
The lineup is extremely timely considering how Interpol, Disclosure, and Jack White have been popular news subjects lately. With Interpol the focus is their newest album, Disclosure is driving Twitter wild with its latest Pharrell Williams Cover, and Jack White is on a crusade to change vinyl music as we know it. Then again, with so many artists there’s bound to a lot of media crossover.
This three day music festival got a huge assist from the NYC restaurant community that provided the largest variety of food ever at a Governors Ball. Over 50 popular NYC food establishments have had their services enlisted to the event with many offering vegetarian and vegan options to the hungry crowd. The spectacular weather has been a welcome change of pace from last year’s heavy rain which caused many delays for the festival. The forecast for today looks to make this three full days of beautiful concert going weather.
Closing out the stellar concert series are favorites Vampire Weekend, Empire of the Sun, James Blake, Foster the People and 20 other artists. The performances are divided in four different venues: The main GovBallNYC Stage, The Big Apple Stage, The Honda Stage, and The Gotham Tent. Performances will run until Axwell Ingrosso closes his set at 11 PM.
This is the fourth iteration of a festival that debuted on Governors Island in 2011. Following that extremely successful run, the festival returned albeit with a venue change at the opposite end of Manhattan on Randall Island where it has stayed ever since. So far the event has continued to succeed thanks to great organization and the fun loving leadership of producers Founders Entertainment. A quick perusal of the Governors Ball website yields comical instances of “nunchucks” being expressly forbidden as well as requests that the attendees do no “pull a Patrick Bateman” with the ATMs on the concert grounds.
More information on the lineup can be seen on the main website for the Governors Ball here.
