Back in April of 2014 Elvis Presley Enterprises decided it was time to move Presley’s two remaining jets from Graceland, thus ending the contract between them and the planes’ current owners, OKC Partnership.  The planes, which were sold to OKC Partnership not long after Presley’s death in 1977, were expected to move to a small lot not far from Graceland where the planes would become an outdoor museum and display.  While everything was set for the Memphis City Council approved move, this Sunday, Graceland released a statement revealing that an agreement has been made and that the planes, Lisa Marie and Hound Dog II, would remain on the property.  “Graceland is pleased that an agreement has been reached for Elvis’ two airplanes, the Lisa Marie and Hound Dog II to remain at Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis permanently,” The statement was also confirmed by Presley’s daughter’s Twitter where she informed fans that not only does Graceland, which officially opened to the public in 1982, now own the planes, but that Graceland has “fun plans for them as well.”

Presley originally purchased the Lisa Marie in 1975 for a quarter of a million dollars, later bringing the value of the plane to over $500,000 with renovations.  The Lisa Marie is a Convair 880 and has gold plated bathroom fixtures, a bed, a conference room, and a stereo system.  The Hound Dog II, which was purchased while Presley waited for renovations on the Lisa Marie to be completed, cost a little less than a million dollars, and is a Lockheed JetStar.

Presley began his career in 1953 when he visited Sun Records where he recorded two songs intended as a gift for his mother.  Aside from those first recordings, Presley has recorded over seventy albums, twenty of them being number one studio albums, with over thirty number one singles, and has starred in more than thirty films. Since his death at forty-two, Presley has been named the second top earning celebrity by Forbes.  The Grammy award winning musician has been posthumously inducted not only into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but also the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
