Hip Hop recording artist, Iggy Azalea, was named the Favorite Hip Hop Artist at the People’s Choice Awards. The other rappers nominated for the award were Jay-Z, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and T.I. After winning her award, Azalea mentioned she didn’t expect to win, and so she didn’t write an acceptance speech. The rapper did, however thank the fans for voting for her. Unlike some awards shows that use a select voting committee, the People’s Choice Awards utilize the general public as voters. Besides winning an award, Iggy Azalea also performed her single Beg For It.” The hit song features Danish singer, , even though MØ did not perform with her on Wednesday night. The gold-selling single is Azalea’s sixth Top 40 hit.

Iggy Azalea has been involved in quite a bit of controversy with a few rappers. During an interview, she commented on all the recent criticism. Iggy Azalea believes the disrespect from fellow artists is solely based on the fact that she is a Caucasian woman in the music industry. “If you go back to the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley and Eminem – they’ve all basically done black music. I felt this wasn’t that far from what we’ve seen in music history over and over again.” Azalea continued by adding, “They don’t say that stuff to Macklemore. So yes, I think it has 100,000 percent to do with the fact that I have a vag***.”

Despite the feuds, particularly with Azealia Banks, the rapper’s music has earned a lot of commercial success. Azalea’s song “Fancy” reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has sold over 7 million copies worldwide, and it has become one of the best-selling singles of all time. Along with all the award nominations, “Fancy” was the most streamed song on Spotify in 2014. The record was named Billboard’s Song of the Summer last year, and it was the most watched VEVO music video in 2014 as well. Azalea passed Lil Kim as the female rapper with the longest-running Number 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. Iggy Azalea is only the fourth solo female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
