The 2015 Brit Awards were taken by surprise last night as Kanye West took the stage to premiere his new single, “All Day.” After an introduction from his wife, Kim Kardashian, West appeared on stage with a mob of people behind him. Always the showman, Kanye and the group were accompanied by two flamethrowers shooting fire up into the air. The song, produced by French Montana and Velous, begins with an intense, humming instrumental that changes as Yeezy starts to rap. The lines range from humorous references (“you a fake Denzel like the Allstate n****”) to fashion (“shopping for the winter and it’s just may n****”). After songs like “Only One” and “FourFiveSeconds,” where rap was nowhere to be found, Kanye wanted to remind people where he came from: “Y’all ready know that I’m straight from the chi / south / south / south side!”
Although this was the official premiere of the track, “All Day” may be familiar to some fans. An early version of the song was leaked onto the internet last year following Kanye’s announcement of the song in GQ Magazine and his plan to drop it in autumn of 2014. Once autumn passed and “Only One” was released, many figured that the song was scrapped. Yeezy was working on the song and trying to make it better. Unlike the leaked version, the final song features a bridge from Allan Kingdom and vocals from Theophilus London. Kingdom, 21, is an upcoming rapper from St. Louis, MN and London is an artist from Brooklyn who recently had Kanye featured on his song, “Can’t Stop.”
It is unknown when this track will be released online, and it is unclear if fans will have to wait for West’s still-untitled 7th solo album to release before they can hear the CDQ of the track. In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Kanye stated that the album isn’t going to have a release date and that he’s just trying to find the right time to drop it. Perhaps fans will be getting this track – and many others – sooner than they think.
