December is coming and soon we’ll be in 2019 before we know it. The New Year will bring plenty of fresh new music plus some releases from old favorites.
Unconfirmed, Announced, and Anticipated
Let’s start off with the albums that have been announced but without an unofficial release date. Here’s what albums you can expect to see in 2019.
Vampire Weekend – It’s been a long time between albums for Vampire Weekend fans. The last release was Modern Vampires of the City, released in 2013.
Sleater-Kinney – Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney has said she expects the group’s new album to arrive in early 2019. The last full-length studio album was 2015’s No Cities to Love.
The Raconteurs – The Raconteurs haven’t released an album in over a decade, but they just released two new songs, “Sunday Driver” and “Now That You’re Gone,” and fans are excited.
Miley Cyrus – Cyrus has released the single “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” with producing partner and collaborator Mark Ronson and it’s an exciting new take for the always-evolving singer.
Ariana Grande – We’ve heard “Thank U, Next” (and seen the amazing pop culture-laden video), but soon, we’ll have the album of the same name. Grande just released her latest album in August 2018, but she’s already gearing up for a 2019 release as well.
That’s not all, because a bevy of pop icons will be sharing new music in 2019. Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera are all said to be releasing new albums in 2019. Madonna and Cher promise new releases too. And if that doesn’t kill your music budget, new releases from Adele, Coldplay, and Sheryl Crow are also coming.
Backstreet Boys – Yep, Backstreet’s back and they have an album to prove it. DNA is the 9th studio album and it’s backed on the “DNA of the group,” meaning what they each offer to the band. (January 25)
Avril Lavigne – Head Above Water is the latest album from Lavigne, who has been dealing with Lyme Disease. She’s referred to this as the culmination of her battle with the condition and everything she had in her. (February 15)
Weezer – Did you see the SNL sketch starring Matt Damon in a spirited argument about Weezer recently? Get ready to have that conversation with fans when Weezer’s new release arrives in March 2019. The self-titled album is also known as The Black Album. (March 1)
Lana Del Rey – Del Rey’s new album, Norman F-ing Rockwell, has two tracks announced: “Venice Bitch” and Mariners Apartment Complex.” The singles have been compared to Leonard Cohen. (March 29)
Sigrid – Norwegian pop singer Sigrid just announced her debut album LP, Sucker Punch, will come out in 2019. We’ve already heard several tracks from her but what the contents are for the album are still a mystery.
This is just the start of what to expect in 2019. We’ve listed mainly pop albums, but country fans won’t be disappointed either as Florida Georgia Line, George Strait, and Sister Hazel will also have releases. We might even know more releases to come before the end of 2018 or in early 2019 so stay tuned.
