The video for “Gypsy” by Russ has a warm, urban feel that compliments the song well. In it, we see a woman venturing into an old warehouse so that she can practice her dancing. She is dressed in flowing, bohemian clothing and tiptoes barefoot over pieces of lumber and debris to claim her space. As the light streams through the dirty windows and highlights the graffiti around her, she stretches on a plywood mat. She begins dancing fluidly and passionately, in a way that showcases her formal training but also reveals her jazzy personality. The lead singer jams around her movements unobserved, singing in a voice as rich and earthy as the colors in the video. The disparity in their movements creates a mesmerizing contrast as you enjoy the smooth beat and raw vocals. Russ makes “Gypsy” pop by transforming a gritty, restricting atmosphere into a place that feels much more natural and carefree.
