Skin care is one of the most important parts of a woman’s daily regimen. However, it’s not always easy to take the best care of your skin. Winter can be one of the toughest times for women to take care of their skin; the dry air, cold temperatures, and brisk wind can damage both your outer layer of skin and your will to get out of bed at all. Number Ten: Use Lotion Containing Salicylic Acid. Salicylic acid might sound harsh, lotions that contain salicylic acid will help exfoliate off all the nasty rough skin you get from spending time outside. These lotions can also help reduce the appearance of blatantly rough bumps on your skin. One example of an excellent lotion containing salicylic acid is CeraVe Renewing SA Cream.
Number Nine: Avoid Soap and Alcohol. If you spend the winter looking like you just committed murder because of your cracked hands, then try to use soap and hand sanitizer as little as possible. If you absolutely must wash your hands (like after you go to the bathroom), use an alcohol-free sanitizer or a soap-free cleanser that also moisturizes. For extra help, rub lotion on your hands after every time you wash them.
Number Eight: Wear Gloves All the Time. Gloves are one of the best ways to avoid that nasty cracked skin during winter. Any barriers between your skin and the outside wind will help your case, and gloves can even help your hands absorb lotion better! Put lotion on right before you put your gloves on to stay moisturized for hours.
Number Seven: Use Honey. Sure, honey is a great addition to a hot toddy, but a hot toddy won’t fix that broken, damaged skin. Rub honey on dry patches on your elbows and knees to soften and hydrate the areas. A mixture of honey and granulated sugar can also help exfoliate those rough patches, and the sugar will also help increase your circulation.
Number Six: Take a Milk Bath. It might sound crazy, but milk – specifically, the lactic acid in milk – is an excellent moisturizer and incredibly effective exfoliant. If you don’t want to waste gallons of milk to bathe yourself in, you can also buy a lotion with 12 percent lactic acid in it that will be just as effective.
