The 2015 Brit Awards took place in London yesterday. There were a few big winners of the night, including Ed Sheeran who won the British Male Solo Artist award, and British Album of the Year for his X project. Sam Smith was awarded the British Breakthrough Act and the Global Success honor. The British Single award went to Mark Ronson‘s (featuring Bruno Mars) “Uptown Funk,” while Paul Epworth won the British Producer of the Year award. One Direction‘s “You & I” received the British Artist Video of the Year, Pharrell Williams was named the International Male Solo Artist, and Taylor Swift was named the International Female Solo Artist. The Foo Fighters won the award for International Group.
The Brit Awards performances of the night have been big news on social media. Kanye West made an appearance at the show, and he performed another new song from his upcoming album. West took to the stage and performed “All Day,” along with a large group of men including rapper St. Paul, Allan Kingdom, Theophilus London, Vic Mensa, Krept & Konan, Novelist, Stormzy, Skepta, and more. Madonna‘s return to the Brit Awards for the first time in twenty years, started off badly. At the beginning of her “Living for Love” performance, one of Madonna’s backup dancers accidentally grabbed too much of the lengthy cape she was wearing (he was only supposed to yank the coat off of Madonna). The pop singer was yanked from the stairs she was standing on, and she fell backwards and hit the ground really hard.
Once Madonna was able to locate her microphone, she got right back up and continued to perform. Although the fall caused the singer to miss several lyrics of “Living for Love,” the pop icon was able to recover towards the end of the record. Madonna would later send a message on social media in regards to her performance mishap. “My beautiful cape was tied too tight! But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up! Thanks for your good wishes! I’m fine,” the pop icon wrote on Instagram. It should also be noted that Madonna was obviously not lip-synching, because only the instrumental of “Living for Love” was playing when she fell to the ground.
