The Human Body: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you didn’t know about the human body, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the human body that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Eight: Males Produce 10 Million New Sperm Every Day. It’s true! Every single day, men’s bodies produce up to 10 million new sperm. This might sound like a lot, but when you consider just how tiny sperm are, it’s slightly (but only slightly) less alarming.

Number Seven: Your Spine Compresses During the Day. Try measuring yourself in the morning and at night one day. You’ll probably find that you’re about one-centimeter shorter at night than you were in the morning. This might seem like black magic, but in reality, the cartilage in your spine compresses during the day to shorten your spine.

Number Six: Your Dreams Are Shorter Than You Think. In fact, the average human dream is just two to three seconds long. Though some dreams are admittedly much longer, most dreams are so short you won’t ever remember them in the morning.

Number Five: You Can Measure Your Height Using Your Arms. And not by using your arms to grab a ruler, either! If you outstretch your arms, you’ll find that the length of your arm span is just as tall as your whole body.

Number Four: Your Eye Can See 2.4 Million Light Years Away. Your eye is an incredible organ, but do you know just how far it can see? Well, the farthest that the naked eye can see with absolutely no obstructions and perfect vision is 2.4 million light years away or 140,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles.

Number Three: You Really Can’t Sneeze With Your Eyes Open. You might think the fact that you can’t sneeze with your eyes open is just an old wives’ tale, but it’s actually a fact! Even if you think you can sneeze with your eyes open, they still close for an extremely brief period of time while you sneeze.

Number Two: Your Eye Is an Impressive Camera. If your eye was a digital camera, it would have an incredibly astounding 576 megapixels!

Number One: You Have More in Common With Bananas Than You Realize. We share 50 percent of our DNA with bananas. Think about that the next time you sit down to eat one!
