The Weeknd just posted a minute-long snippet on social media for his song “Where You Belong.” The song will be featured on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. The R&B singer also recently released a music video for “Earned It,” which will also be featured on the soundtrack. “Earned It” is currently Number 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales list. The record sold 53,289 copies this week, and 219,286 copies so far. At this pace, “Earned It” is expected to reach Gold certification in the upcoming months. Along with Weeknd, Beyonce will have two songs on The Fifty Shades of Grey project. The album will be released on February 10, and will also include songs from Sia, The Rolling Stones, Ellie Goulding, Skylar Grey, and Annie Lennox. The Fifty Shades of Grey film hits theaters on February 13.
Besides “Where You Belong,” Weeknd also dropped off a new remix version of “Drinks On Us.” The original record is featured on Mike Will Made It‘s Ransom mixtape. “Drinks On Us” also features Future and Swae Lee. The nominations for the 2015 Juno Awards were recently announced a few days ago, and the awards show honors Canadian recording artists in order to recognize their musical achievements and contributions. The Weeknd is nominated for Artist of the Year at the Juno Awards show this year. The event will take place at the First Ontario Centre on March 15.
The last studio album from The Weeknd was entitled Kiss Land. The project was released in 2013, and produced six singles including “Kiss Land,” “Belong to the World,” and “Love in the Sky.” The album has been described as “dark and depraved” but it represents who the Weeknd is, as a man and a musician. “Kiss Land is the story after Trilogy; it’s pretty much the second chapter of my life,” he once told MTV News. The Weeknd added, “The album is about what young men think but will never say out loud. I’ve learned to pretty much not give a shit, and it kind of morphed this sound and it works.” Earlier this month, the singer was also announced as a performer at the 2015 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The Indie, California festival will take place during two weekends, April 12-14 and April 17-19.
