The Tonight Show is becoming a routine subject for FDRMX news. We can’t help it that new host Jimmy Fallon has provided some of the most eye popping musical moments of the year. Every week (or more) a something happens on the show that just has to be mentioned. The latest incident involves one of the most hilarious and well done mashups in a while, this time at the expense of one of the biggest network news anchors in the country.
Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News was the unfortunate target of some interesting editing arranged to make him sing “Baby Got Back” by Sir-Mix-A-Lot. Fallon’s comedy team scoured almost ten years of Williams’s career in order to find all the necessary words to the posterior anthem. They even recruited footage of Kathy Lee Gifford for a rather critical female part of the song. Kim Jong Un deserves special mention for providing an equally important lyric as well.
This isn’t the first time poor Brian Williams has had his footage manipulated into a hip hop song by the late night show host. News footage was cut together for “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang, “Straight Outta Compton” by N.W.A., “Gin and Juice” by Snoop Dogg and many others. Williams even appeared on the Tonight Show in April to complain about how the videos have led to some awkward encounters with hip hop fans. “It’s all anyone mentions to me anymore. It’s unbelievable.” Williams laughed. “It’s been months. You’ve done this to me seven times!” Judging by the newly released video, Brian Williams’s problems seem to be just starting.
The 1992 hit song Baby Got Back was, believe it or not, in the news earlier this month for its use in the Seattle Symphony orchestra. It’s interesting to know that a twelve year old song is all of a sudden the subject of two very different remixes. At this rate the next iteration of the song will be performed by a grade school choir.
Be sure to check out the latest (but certainly not the last) addition of Brian Williams’s rap career right here.
