Top 5 Freaky Facts About Your Body

Sometimes you take for granted just how truly amazing your body is. If you think about it, your body is actually much more complex and advanced than a super-computer or even a robot. With that in mind, here are our top five freaky facts you (probably) didn’t know about your body!

Number Five: You Are Born With More Bones Than You Die With. When you are born you have 300 bones in your body, but by the time you’re an adult, there are only 206. As a baby, you have a tiny body, so naturally your bones are smaller when you are born, but as you grow, so does your bones. When this happens some bones fuse together to form one. This process causes the total number of bones in your body to decrease. Once this happens your bones become harder than concrete and stronger than granite.

Number Four: Your Eyes Are More Powerful Than a Telescope. Your eyes can distinguish up to 10 million color differences. Your eyes also take in more information than the world’s largest telescope. To put things into perspective, a really great camera has about 24 megapixels; your eyes have about 130 million pixels, which makes them more than 1,000 times better than the best camera in the world. According to a study at Harvard, “The telescope has greater sharpness of vision than the eye, but the eye has a much wider field of view.”

Number Three: Your Body Glows in the Dark. You may not be aware of this but your body is bio-luminescent. So, like many other organisms, it glows in the dark. Unfortunately, the light you emit cannot be seen by the naked eye. It’s actually 1,000 times weaker than what you can see with your own eyes. But just like a firefly or a glow worm, you do produce a small amount of light as a result of a chemical reaction within your cells.

Number Two: Your Muscles Are More Powerful Than You Realize. I’m sure you’ve heard of countless times people exhibited strength that was quite unbelievable. Your muscles are so powerful that you are able to lift objects that are heavier than your own body weight. Unfortunately, human strength is limited to protect your tendons and muscles from harming themselves. This limitation can be removed through sheer will and adrenaline at times, allowing some people to lift objects has heavy as cars or even boulders off of the ground or themselves.

Number One: Your Brain Is the World’s Best Computer. Your brain is the most amazing part of your body. One of the most fascinating facts about it is that the inside of your brain resembles a model of the universe. You may not believe this but, if your brain was a computer it would be able to perform 38 thousand trillion operations per second. The fastest supercomputer known to man can only perform only .002% of that.  Simply put, you and everyone else walking around have the ability to do amazing things – you just have to realize it.
