It’s no secret that every person in the world has a mother, but how well do you know yours? The story of these five strangest mothers of all time may make you question everything you think you know. Sometimes the maternal instinct can lead mothers astray, and these five stories are proof of exactly that. Check out the stories of five of history’s strangest mothers below.
Number Five: Octomom. Nadya Suleman, better known as Octomom, gave birth to healthy octuplets in January 2009. However, this isn’t the strangest aspect of Suleman’s story. Suleman already had children – six, to be exact – when she conceived the octuplets via IVF. People began to suspect that Suleman continued to get pregnant so she would be famous, and she confirmed these suspicions when, three years after giving birth to her octuplets, she did porn to support her 14 children.
Number Four: Lina Medina. Medina delivered a child by C-section, but that’s not the most interesting thing about her. What’s so strange about Medina was that she was just five years old when she gave birth! Her parents brought her to the hospital after concerns were raised about her swollen abdomen. Little did they know their little girl was pregnant. Medina never revealed the father of her child or how she was impregnated in the first place.
Number Three: Valentina Vassilyeva. Little is known about Valentina Vassilyeva, except that she was from Russia, she was alive during the 18th century, and she gave birth to 69 children. Yes, 69 children. Vassilyeva was a mother to 16 pairs of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and four sets of quadruplets. Amazingly, all but two children Vassilyeva gave birth to survived their infancies.
Number Two: Thomas Beatie. Thomas Beatie was married to Nancy Beatie, and together, they had their first child in 2002. However, Nancy wasn’t the one who carried the baby – Thomas was! Thomas underwent gender reassignment surgery before he married Nancy; he was born a woman and became a man. Nancy, though born a woman, was unable to conceive, so Thomas agreed to carry their child through artificial insemination.
Number One: Stacey Herald. Stacey Herald’s babies are literally half her size, but that hasn’t stopped her at all. Herald is just 2’4″ and suffers from a condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta which causes brittle bones, underdeveloped lungs, and in Herald’s case, a very small frame. Though having children could kill Herald, she has given birth and survived to tell the tale three times, and she has said that she wants even more children in the future!
