Twitter is one of the most widely used social media platforms in the world. It allows users to express themselves in short bits, and it has become a great conduit for comedians and rising stars alike to achieve new heights of fame. Number Ten: The Avatar Has a Name. The little bird synonymous with Twitter has a name, and it’s Larry. The bird is named after – you guessed it – ex-NBA star Larry Bird. One of the company’s founders is from Bird’s home state, so they decided to name the avatar after Larry Bird.
Number Nine: One Day’s Tweets Could Make a 10 Million Page-Long Book. There are an average of 500 million tweets posted every day. That makes 347,000 tweets every minute, 80 percent of which are sent via mobile phone. There are enough tweets in a single day to fill up a 10 million page-long book, and people can tweet in 33 different languages.
Number Eight: They Are Watched by the CIA. There is an entire team of analysts belonging to the CIA whose jobs are to read through tweets to gauge the “general mood of the world.” In fact, the president is debriefed on this “general mood” almost every day, and the team can go through up to five million tweets every day.
Number Seven: Justin Bieber Has More Followers Than There Are Citizens in Spain. Bieber has over 70 million followers on Twitter! That’s more people than there are citizens in Spain. However, one analysis revealed that not all of these users are actual people, and many may be spam robots. Even so, it’s still a pretty amazing accomplishment.
